JUMP TO: Autumn Swatches website.
I'm a makeup hobbyist who values efficiency and equity. I have a husband, a day job, and a Sephora Rouge account! I started this page because I noticed that tan aka medium-deep shades were often being skipped in brand swatch photos, which makes it difficult for people in this shade range to choose the correct color in a foundation and makes it difficult to accurately perceive shades in other makeup products as neither light arms or deep arms are close enough to this shade range to be useful in selecting shades remotely. I wanted to bring awareness to this issue so that the makeup industry will eventually fix it while being a resource for others in this shade range in the meantime. The Caramel Swatches initiative has since been re-branded as Autumn Swatches! The Autumn Swatches website features the searchable swatch database and other cool features. Check out the Autumn Swatches website.
For shade reference, the Sephora Color IQs I wear are 1y11, 2y11, 3y11, & 4y11.

The Caramel Swatches Instagram page includes a “Guides” tab where posts are organized into people wearing the same foundation shades. Seeing multiple people in the same shade is a great way to see how flexible the shades are, train your eye to better notice similarities and differences in complexion depths and undertones, and determine which shade will work best for you.
This section also includes Eyeshadow Guides and People Guides allowing you to see how eyeshadow palettes look on brown complexions and follow celebrities and models across multiple shades/brands.
